XIIth Legion of the Thulian Empire
The Borderlands Legion is made up of Divisions of up to 996 soldiers. A Division is commanded by a General assisted by four administrative Captains.
The Division is broken up into two to four Battalions of up to 244 soldiers. A Battalion is commanded by a Captain assisted by three administrative Lieutenants.
The Battalion is broken up into two to four Companies of up to 60 soldiers. A Company is commanded by a Lieutenant. The garrison of a small fortress or a large guardhouse may be a Company.
The Company is broken up into two to four Squadrons of up to 14 soldiers. A Squadron is commanded by a Sergeant. This is the smallest unit of the Borderlands army. The garrison of the average guardhouse will be a Squadron.
Standing Forces
1st Division (Warforged Guard)
Even though the warforged on the Soldier’s Wall aren’t part of the army proper, General Luthus honored them by declaring the warforged forces the 1st Division of the Borderlands. It is divided into three Battalions, stationed on diverent parts of the Wall as shown on the map.
- 1st Division, Western Borderlands Wall Warforged Battalion “The Metal Storm Fury”. Personnel: 196 (four companies of about 48 average).
- 1st Division, Centre Borderlands Wall Warforged Battalion “The Molten Steel Blade”. Personnel: 208 (four companies of about 51 average). NOTES: One of the companies of the Molten Steel Blade is the famous “Dappers”, created by captain Leopold Dapper.
- 1st Division, Eastern Borderlands Warforged Battalion “The Clicking Gear Precision Instrument”. Personnel: 188 (four companies of about 46 average).
2nd Division (Wall Guard)
The 2nd Division is charged with the responsibility of guarding the Borderlands part of Soldier’s Wall. It’s overal commander at General rank is Luthus himself. It’s Battalions are stationed in the four guard towers across the wall (shown on the map), one Battalion each.
- 2nd Division, West Tower Guard Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength).
- 2nd Division, Foliage Tower Guard Battalion “The Redleaves”. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength). NOTES: The tower’s name comes from the leaves it sprouted after a rod of wonder misfired. In autumn, the ground around the tower is covered with yellow and red leaves.
- 2nd Division, Broken Tower Guard Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength).
- 2nd Division, Tremor Tower Guard Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength).
3rd Division (Elite Guard Units)
Luthus has a relatively small force garrisoned within Scorpion Keep, prefering to put as many soldiers as is possible on the wall instead. A small Battalion of two companies is charged with the responsibility of guarding the keep. The Northern Road Battalion is charged with guarding the road directly behind Soldier’s Wall.
- 3rd Division, Scorpion Keep Battalion “The Scorpion’s Sting”. Personnel: 122 (two companies, full strength).
- 3rd Division, Northern Road Battalion. Personnel: 122 (two companies, full strength).
4th Division (Northern and Eastern Forts)
Charged with the responsibility of guarding against the war-like Horned People and the Uawakin clans, the 4 Battalions of this Division are garrisoned in the counties of Altergate, Daven, Deadwood, and Hightower, one Battalion each.
- 4th Division, Altergate Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength).
- 4th Division, Daven Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength).
- 4th Division, Deadwood Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength).
- 4th Division, Hightower Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength). NOTES: In addition to the Hightower Battalion, numerous strong mercenary forces, most of them larger than the Battalion, make Hightower County their home.
5th Division (Western Forts)
Charged with the responsibility of guarding against hypotetical threats from the Grazer Lands and the Mountains of Dusk, the 5th Division is relatively small. Only the Peregrine Battalion is garrisoned at full strength, probably at request of the king of Neron.
- 5th Division, Peregrine Battalion. Personnel: 244 (four companies, full strength). NOTES: In addition, The Order of the Iron Sword can field at least twofull-strenght Companies of knights.
- 5th Division, Uriel Battalion. Personnel: 122 (two companies, full strength).
- 5th Division, Vertigo Battalion. Personnel: 183 (three companies, full strength). NOTES: Garrisoned in Fort Coyote, Fort Griffin, and Guulvorg Keep. The Companies are named after their forts . For example, soldiers from Guuvorg Keep call themselves “Guulvorgs”. In addition to these forces, countess Alexandra has her own elite troops (“The White Eagles”) garrisoned at Vertigo Manor.
