The Legend
Although the stories say little of the way in which Sariel acquired the Manes of the Unicorn and the Veil of the Hiding Sun, several contradictory legends are told concerning the creation of the greatspear called Sariel's Horn. Their main point of disagreement concerns the manner in which Sariel was able to have her spear created by the legendary Sidhe spearsmith Jelenneth, who in Sariel's days had been dead for several centuries. According to one version she was possessed by Jelenneth and then crafted the spear herself, according to another she set the spearsmith's ghost free and received the spear as a reward and in yet another version she simply located Jelenneth's body and had her raised from the dead. What all accounts agree upon however is that it was this greatspear, with its long dead creator, that made it possible for Sariel to perform a ritual that severed a small, barely sentient, segment of Sariel's already divine soul, and invested it in three of her magical items, thereby making them into her Relics. It is said Sariel performed this sarcifice in order to better bridge the distance between herself in The Unknown and a future follower of hers, once The Appointed Time would have arrived.
Reported Owners
The Relics are mentioned in several historical accounts, although rarely together. In fact only a few people are known to have carried more than one of them and nobody ever seems to have possessed all three.
- Meriele, of The Sisterhood of the Hiding Sun has been depicted with what looks like the Veil and the Horn.
- Shivra, of The Order of the Hidden Moon is claimed to have possesed the Manes and the Veil in the Order's official oral history.
- Carolus the Heretic, an Aedonian priest, owned the Manes and the Horn, according to his own memoirs.
- Althaea Taint Slayer Abbess of The Sisterhood of the Hiding Sun, The Order of the Hidden Moon and The Order of the Falling Stars and founder of the The Rays of Revelation currently possesses all three relics.
- Saldoran Gorst temporarily had all three relics on loan from Althaea Taint Slayer.
The Relics' Powers
In addition to the items original magical properties, the investing of a segment of her own soul into the three Relics resulted in a much closer bond between the owner of two or more of these Relics and Sariel herself. In the stories about the Relics many effects are mentioned such as an increased understanding of the deep wilds, being able to hide from Those That Would Taint Its Light, increasing the range of one's fighting powers and even the ultimate perfection of the art of ritual spear-fighting as taught by her holy orders.
