Little is known of the ancient empire that build the Soldier's Wall as a protection againt The Elemental Chaos except that they were technically far advanced and worshipped strange gods. At a certain point however The First Empire fell apart and forgot about its own technological inventions and a dark ages of small kingdoms and warlords arrived that lasted until The Instability Wars began. Nowadays it is often said that The soldier's Wall is as old as The World itself.

The wall is still defended by millenia-old warforged created in the times of The First Empire. In present days they are often supplemented by legions of the holy empire of Thule as some sections lack (functioning) warforged altogether and because the warforged are not entirelly trusted as they keep their ancient commands to themselves which leads to erratic behavior such as a warforged suddenly leaving with claims of having served one's time or an entire unit going out into The Elemental Chaos to hunt for demons, never to be seen again.

It is claimed that many secret corridors and chambers filled with treasure and machines of a long lost civilization are to be found underneath the wall.
