Troubled by the zombification of several Gatebourne Gallopers that had gone with Kalle Dönitz into the Thunder Lizard Battlescar, lieutant Kurt vom Haken sent a small party of adventurers under leadership of well known posse fan Dorian Underhelm into the Battlescar to investigate. When they did not return he brought together a new intrepid group to find out what was going on in that building that the recovered Gallopers barely dared to mention. This group was made up of the young and enthousiastic Keylleth, Cinder and Whisper!, none of whom had an idea of what they were getting into.

The group was very lucky in encountering no real problems during their early morning travels through the absurd Battlescar landscape. Scaled rocks were ignored, leafless fleshy draconic trees turned out to be easy to 'chop' down and they even remembered not to drink from the reddish water! When they arrived at the gloomy building in the early afternoon Cinder was quick enough to point out that it had once been dedicated to the goddess Shallya (which apparently was the name his people used for Demetra). Once inside however they quickly realised that this cult had been usurped or supplanted by a cult for Orcus who was depicted here as a child from the already dead Demetra. After investigating the unnaturally gloomy and abandoned temple for a bit (meanwhile finding some treasure and smashing down a statue of Orcus) the group went downstairs into the old rectory where they found the corpses of Dorian and his mates as well as the dessicated corpse of a priest of Orcus wearing a purple glowing stone around his neck. Before being able to chop his head of all of the corpses in the room came alive. Despite the undead's best efforts and unwillingness to stay down the three young adventurers were able to cut them down quick enough to hear the mass of zombies crawling through the suddenly dark surrounding landscape towards the temple before they had actually reached its doors and windows. Quickly the group set themselves to throwing mouldy bookcases over a hole in the floor and jam doors and windows. Regrettably they were not able to do so fast enough to keep the undead nasties outside completely, but they managed to kill those rapidly enough to close all the entry points. The zombies, however, proved resourcefull and came up through holes in the floor and started swarming poor Whisper! who had decided to wear the purple glowing stone downstairs around his neck. Apparently the stinking sock used to cover it did not distract the monstrous undead. and monstrous they were, not only were there humanoid zombies, there were also scaly undead wolves and mobile undead plants. Although Whisper! was not able to withstand this onslaught he was soon healed by Cinder and together with his help and that of sunny Keylleth they managed to slay this horde of zombies as well, meanwhile still praying to Demetra and shoring up the defenses.

After having secured themselves, the group had time to discuss what to do with the necroshard that Cinder had identified as the source of at least the initial wave of zombies. Luckily for the surrounding lands Keylleth was able to convince Cinder to destroy the object instead of making it into a new scythe. To do so the group deconsecrated the temple and placed the necroshard on Demetra's newly reconsecrated altar. Although this meant the zombie apocalypse was averted it somehow did not restore the light outside. After waiting for quite some time for the soon to rise again, the group finally decided to head back to Gatebourne where they received the absurd news that the sun had fallen out of the sky at the exact moment they had been in the temple...
