Vessel of the Divine Soul
From Ditjes&Datjes
“In these times of great upheaval we need the heroes of old. For that I gladly sacrifice this unworthy meatsuit”
Prerequisites: 21st level, revenant, must worship one of the Lost Apostles.
A millenium ago The World was saved by the leader of a group of adventurers called the Company of the Silent Dusk. This young man, called the Messiah, was said to the son of the Sun God Aedon and it was of his divine blood that the the Dromenon symbol was formed. A symbol so powerful that it restabilized The World and protected it from the the ever threatening Elemental Chaos. His sacrifice, however, was not untainted by betrayal as the Holy Bible points out. It were however not, as this book claims, the acts of the apostle Iscariot that were the greates blemish on the Messiah’s noble deed, in fact it could be said that his betrayal was merely necessary. No, the greatest threat came from those apostles that used the power of the Dromenon for their own personal gain. Like Achaicus, Balthamor, Gwendolyn, Jedidiah, Luthus and Shelba who as leeches drained it so that they could keep their positions of power. The greatest taint of them all, however, was Helios who murdered the Messiah so he could build an empire founded on blood and corrupt the worship of its inhabitants for his own aggrandizement. However, not all of the Messiah’s apostles chose this path. Anadon opposed the idea of an empire rooted in blood and disappeared while Caladnei rather died than be an immortal. Zebulon followed Iscariot who had fled into the Chaos where the former’s soul was shattered and the latter lost his to the Ashen God. Sariel repented making use of the Dromenon and sided with the goddess Titania instead, although her soul too was shattered in the Chaos. Now, a thousand years later, the dreaded moment has finally come that the Dromenon has be weakened to such an extent that it can no longer protect the world. In these times of great need the heroes of old are once again needed and it is to this noble purpose that you have dedicated your body. Although your spirit remains you have substituted your own soul with the soul, or fragments thereof, of one of the Lost Apostles. Using your own body as a bridge between the worlds of the dead and the world of the living you are able to manifest his or her great divine power. Although this comes at a cost to both your physique and your identity, this is a sacrifice you are willing to pay if it means you can right past wrongs.
Immortality
You give up a piece of yourself in the hope of saving the World. By doing so you bind the fate of whatever remains of you, to its survival. If you succeed in your quest your sacrifice might be remembered through the ages. But if you fail you are likely to become as lost in the Chaos as the apostle you once served.
Final Reunion: Upon concluding your Destiny Quest you are presented with the chance to finally reunite your body, spirit and soul. Then, the apostle you once served rewards you with a safe haven. Here you retreat to in preparation for the day that you will be appealed to by those who wish to save the World.
